2-Minute Self-Care Ritual: When You Feel Drained 🪫

Emotional drain doesn’t always come from one big thing. It can build slowly, from giving your energy, holding space, navigating stress, or simply being “on” for too long.

When your internal battery is low, your nervous system isn’t asking for more effort. It’s asking for restoration.

You don’t need to fully recharge right now. You just need to pause the drain and offer a small refill.

🌧 Step 1: Acknowledge the Depletion (30 seconds):
Pause and gently name it: “I feel emotionally drained.” Then add: “Of course I do.”

Validation reduces internal resistance. You don’t have to push through or minimize it to move forward. This tells your body “I see you, hear you, and respect you.”

🔌 Step 2: Reduce Output (45 seconds):
Ask yourself: “Where can I give a smidge less right now?” or “What can wait until another day?”

Maybe it’s softening your tone, pausing a conversation, stepping away from a task, or delaying a response. Sometimes it’s criticizing your output less, acknowledging you won’t hit every to-do, or choosing good enough over perfect. Even a slight reduction in output can help preserve what energy you have left.

🌿 Step 3: Micro-Replenish (30–45 seconds):
Choose one small, low-effort act that gives back to you.
• Close your eyes for a few breaths
• Sit in silence
• Step outside
• Put a hand on your chest and slow your breathing
You’re not fixing everything. You’re just beginning to refill.

You don’t need to earn rest. You need it because you’re human.

Action step: Notice one place today where you can give 10% less and offer that energy back to yourself.

3 Strategies To Be Better Hydrated 💧

Most of us know we should drink more water, and yet chronic mild dehydration remains incredibly common; it quietly lowers energy, focus, digestion, and mood.

The problem usually isn't willpower. It's the absence of a system. Here are 3 simple strategies that can help you stay hydrated and feel good:

1. Get a Water Bottle You Actually Like: Keeping a water bottle visible and within reach is a very effective nudge for increasing daily water intake. Size matters, as a 1L bottle means you only need to refill it less frequently to hit your target. Choose a bottle you enjoy using, keep it on your desk or in your line of sight, because it can’t help if it is out of sight.

2. Try the Rubber Band Method: This has helped a lot of my clients. First, establish how many bottles of water you want to drink in a day. Then place that many rubber bands around your water bottle. To start the day, put the bands near the top of your bottle. Every time you finish a full bottle, move 1 band from top to bottom. It's a no-tech, almost no-cost visual tracker that removes the “how many bottles have I had today” question. This is an "implementation cue," a physical reminder that keeps behaviour on track without relying on memory or motivation.

3. Eat More Water-Rich Whole Foods: Up to 20% of daily water intake comes from food, yet most people overlook this entirely. Cucumbers, watermelon, oranges, strawberries, celery, and leafy greens are all over 90% water by weight. Include more of these in your meals and snacks to help you stay hydrated, while also getting fibre, vitamins, and minerals.

Action Step: Pick just one of these strategies and commit to it for 7 days, and see how being better hydrated helps you feel.
