Today’s Edition

There is beauty in the mundane,
In the same,
and like the flickering flame,
Your light shines and proclaims,
Breathe and exclaim,
I am not a slave to shame,
Rather I am love untamed.

This Isn't Self-Indulgence
There's a story a lot of people are carrying, often without realizing it, that taking care of themselves is a little bit selfish. That it takes time away from more important things. That other people need more than they do, that their own needs can wait, that rest is something they'll earn eventually if they just get enough done first.
This story is especially common in people who care deeply about others and about the world. The more you care, the more there is to do, and the more it can feel like turning inward (even briefly) is a kind of abandonment of what matters.
But here's the thing about a depleted nervous system: it doesn't make you more available to the things you care about. It makes you less. The hypervigilant system has less access to empathy and nuance: it's running in survival mode, and survival mode is not a generous state. The shutdown system has less capacity for connection, creativity, sustained engagement. Chronic dysregulation quietly narrows the range of what you're able to offer.
Tending to your nervous system isn't a retreat from your life or your values or the people and causes that matter to you. It's what makes sustained presence possible. It's the maintenance of the instrument you use to show up for everything.
There's also something worth naming that goes beyond the practical: you are not only valuable because of what you can do and produce and offer. You are a person. You are allowed to need care without it being in service of your output. Rest is not only justified by what it enables.
But if you need the practical argument too, here it is: a regulated nervous system is a more generous, more creative, more sustained, more present one. The care you give yourself is not taken from the world. It's what you bring back to it.
✅ Action Step: Notice if any part of you resisted something in this piece: a voice that said "yes, but I don't really have time" or "that applies to other people more than me." If so, just acknowledge it. That voice learned something too, probably that your needs came last, or that rest had to be earned. You don't have to argue with it. Just notice it's there, and know that what you're building is a different story.

Supplement For Muscle Growth?
The most studied supplement is arguably creatine. It has been shown to help improve strength and muscle growth, and new research suggests it can really benefit middle-aged adults.
In a 12-week study of adults ages 45 to 65, participants who took creatine gained lean tissue and improved strength, even without following a structured exercise program. Those who combined creatine with regular resistance and aerobic exercise saw even greater improvements.
This is awesome research because muscle and strength loss is one of the biggest factors when it comes to aging poorly so having a simple intervention like this is really great. Plus, creatine has a strong safety record, and I mentioned it is one of the most studied supplements available.
✅ Action Step: If you’re considering creatine, talk with your healthcare provider and look for plain creatine monohydrate, the most studied form.
