2-Minute Self-Care Ritual: When You Need Courage
Courage is often misunderstood as fearlessness. But real courage usually looks much quieter than that.
It’s showing up while scared. Speaking honestly while vulnerable. Beginning before you feel fully ready. Taking the next step even when certainty isn’t guaranteed.
Courage is not the absence of fear, it’s movement alongside it. Here’s a ritual to help:
🫁 Step 1: Ground Yourself First (30–45 seconds):
Take one slow breath in and a longer breath out.
Feel your feet against the floor.
When fear rises, grounding helps remind your nervous system that you are here, now, and capable of making intentional choices.
💭 Step 2: Reconnect With Your “Why” (45 seconds):
Ask yourself: “What matters more than my fear right now?”
Maybe it’s:
• Growth
• Authenticity
• Healing
• Connection
• Standing up for yourself
Fear gets loud. Purpose helps steady us.
➡️ Step 3: Shrink Courage Down to One Step (30–45 seconds):
You do not need to leap. Ask: “What is one brave step I can take right now?”
Maybe it’s:
• Sending the message
• Saying the truth
• Trying again
• Letting yourself be seen
• Beginning imperfectly
Courage grows through practice, not perfection. You are allowed to be scared and still move forward.
✅ Action step: Identify one thing fear has been stopping you from doing and take one small courageous step toward it today.

The Skill of Conscious Relaxation
I used to think relaxing was just the absence of work. Sit down, stop doing things, done. But I've learned it's actually a skill, and how you frame an activity changes whether it restores you or not.
I walk my dog every day; it helps me hit my step target, and it keeps my pup healthy and happy. One day I realized I was treating it as a task: something to tick off, my mind racing through my to-do list, and I finish those walks less rested than I started. Now (when I remember), I consciously relax into it; it lightens my body and mind, letting me feel more rested and invigorated than when I started. It's the same walk but a different result.
The difference is what's happening in your nervous system. When your brain is locked in "task mode" (focused, goal-driven, problem-solving), it stays switched on and alert. Consciously choosing to relax helps you step out of that mode and downshift into a calmer state where your body can actually recover.
The activity doesn't have to change. Your intention does, which leads to a different result.
✅ Action Step: Pick one activity today (a walk, cooking, a shower, etc.) and consciously decide to relax into it. Slow down, and notice the difference in how you feel during and after.
