Today’s Edition

Hey there, I hope you know how wonderful and special you really are!

Monday Healing Moment: Releasing the Need to Have It All Figured Out

Happy Monday 💛. Before this week begins, let’s set something heavy down together: the pressure to have everything figured out.

Take a slow breath in. And a long breath out. Let your shoulders soften just a little.

So many of us move through life believing we should know exactly where we’re going. Exactly who we are. Exactly what comes next.

But life does not unfold that neatly. That’s a collective truth. Most people are learning as they go.  Adjusting as they go. Healing as they go. And that’s allowed to be true for you too.

Take a moment to imagine releasing the expectation that you must already have all the answers before you’re allowed to move forward.

What if uncertainty doesn’t mean failure? What if it simply means you are living? That it’s part of the beautiful adventure that is this life.

You are allowed to grow into your answers. Allowed to change your mind. Allowed to discover new parts of yourself along the way.

There is wisdom in openness. Wisdom in allowing life to reveal itself step by step.

As this week begins, let yourself breathe a little easier. You do not need a perfectly mapped-out future to take your next step.

Take one more slow breath. Let the pressure soften on the exhale.

You are allowed to be a work in progress.

Love, Lola Graham

It's Not the Sitting, It's the TV

"The TV will turn your eyes square and rot your brain." Turns out they weren’t fully wrong; well, they were about the eyes part. New research suggests that for brain health and aging, what you do while you sit matters.

Scientists followed about 1,700 adults with an average age of 53 and scanned their brains over 20 years later. People who said they watched TV "very often" in midlife had smaller memory-related brain regions, smaller frontal and occipital lobes, and more white matter damage tied to cognitive decline and dementia.

This association held even after accounting for physical activity, BMI, smoking, diabetes, and alcohol.

But people who sat a lot for work had healthier-looking brains. The researchers think the difference here is mental engagement: a desk job makes you think, while TV lets your brain switch off. Same sitting, by opposite effects on your brain.

A couple of caveats here. TV habits were self-reported (not precise), and the brain effects showed up mostly in men, for reasons that aren't yet clear. So for now this can be taken as a strong signal, not a verdict. More research is needed.

But as someone who loves watching shows, it is time for me to make some swaps.

Action Step: You don't need to swear off TV completely. Try swapping some TV activities that make your brain work: reading, puzzles, conversations, playing music or learning something new. It's the mental engagement that matters.
