Monday Healing Moment: Letting Your Guard Rest

Happy Monday 💛 Let's begin this week by offering a little tenderness to the parts of ourselves that work so hard to keep us safe.

Take a slow breath in. And a long breath out. Feel the support beneath you. Notice your surroundings. Allow yourself to recognize any safety or comfort available to you in this moment.

Now imagine a protective suit of armour you've been carrying.

Perhaps it's made of worry. Hypervigilance. Expectations. The need to anticipate everything that might go wrong.

This armour may have helped you through difficult moments. You don't need to judge it. You can even thank it for trying to protect you. But perhaps, right here, you can allow one small piece to rest.

Imagine gently loosening the armour around your shoulders. Feel the possibility of a little more space. A little less bracing. A little more breathing. A little more ease.

You don't have to let every guard down. You don't have to feel safe where you aren't. You simply deserve moments when protection doesn't have to demand all your energy.

As this week unfolds, notice where life offers you opportunities to soften.

A trusted person. A peaceful space. A moment of quiet. Let yourself receive those moments without pressure.

Take one more slow breath, offering kindness to the parts of you that have worked so hard.

May you find more moments where you can feel protected without needing to remain guarded.

Love, Lola Graham

Can Type 2 Diabetes Be Put Into Remission?

In a new clinical trial of adults under 45 with obesity and early-onset type 2 diabetes, 54% of participants achieved remission in only 24 weeks. They did this by following an intensive diet and exercise program. Only 4% of those individuals who received standard care went into remission.

The program the participants were put on was intense:
- They followed an 800 to 900 calorie diet
- Exercised with both aerobic and resistance training
- And were medically supervised throughout

One of the most important parts was resistance training since the goal was not just to lose weight, but to specifically lose fat while preserving muscle, which matters for long-term metabolic health. Resistance training was imperative for this.

Since this is such an extremely low-calorie plan, I would not recommend this as a DIY plan. However, it is a good reminder that lifestyle changes can dramatically alter the course of type 2 diabetes and your health.

✅ Action Step: If you have type 2 diabetes, talk to your healthcare team about whether a structured weight-loss and exercise program could be appropriate for you.

Glimmers of Joy:

A gentle prompt to help you create small feel good moments of beauty, appreciation, and delight.

Notice something ordinary that would have once felt magical to a younger version of you.
