Monday Healing Moment: Becoming Available to Joy

Happy Monday 💛 Let’s begin this week by opening a little space for joy.

Take a slow breath in. And a soft breath out. Feel yourself arrive here.

Now imagine gently opening a window within yourself. Not forcing anything to enter. Simply letting in a little more light.

Sometimes joy can feel far away, not because it has disappeared, but because life has asked so much of us that we’ve stopped expecting to find it.

We brace. We focus on what needs fixing. We prepare for what might go wrong.

And somewhere along the way, we can forget to leave the door open for what might feel good.

So for this moment, let yourself become available to joy.

Available to laughter that catches you by surprise. To beauty that makes you pause. To connection that warms you. To something wonderfully silly, delicious, moving, or alive.

You don’t have to manufacture joy. You don’t have to be happy all the time.

Becoming available to joy simply means remembering that goodness gets to reach you, too.

As you move into this week, leave a little room for delight to find you.

Take one more slow breath, opening gently to what is good.

May joy know it is welcome here.

Love, Lola Graham

Ways to Increase Iron Absorption

It is estimated that about 25%-33% of adults have inadequate iron intake, low iron stores, or an iron deficiency. If you exercise regularly, getting enough iron can be especially important because training can increase iron losses and, for some people, raise their iron needs.

Iron plays an important role in energy, oxygen transport, and overall health, but your body does not absorb all dietary iron equally.

3 ways to improve absorption:

  1. Pair iron-rich foods with vitamin C: Citrus, berries, bell peppers, and broccoli can help your body absorb more non-heme iron from plant foods.

  2. Avoid tea and coffee with meals: Compounds in both can interfere with iron absorption, so try having them at least an hour before or after eating.

  3. Include heme iron when appropriate: Iron from meat, poultry, and fish is generally absorbed more easily than iron from plant foods.

✅ Action Step: Add a vitamin C-rich food to one iron-rich meal today, like berries with oatmeal or peppers with lentils.
