2-Minute Self-Care Ritual: When You’re Running on Autopilot
Sometimes life becomes a cycle of responding, producing, scrolling, rushing, and getting through the day without fully being in it.
Autopilot can happen when we’re overstimulated, overwhelmed, emotionally tired, or simply moving too fast for too long. Eventually, we stop checking in with ourselves altogether.
This ritual is about gently returning to presence.
🛑 Step 1: Interrupt the Pattern (30 seconds):
Pause what you’re doing for one full breath.
Put your phone down. Stop multitasking. Look away from the screen or task in front of you.
Even a tiny pause can interrupt automatic mode.
👁 Step 2: Notice the Present Moment (45 seconds):
Ask yourself:
• What do I see around me?
• What sensations do I notice in my body?
• What emotion is here right now?
The goal isn’t to analyze, just to notice.
🧭 Step 3: Choose One Intentional Action (30–45 seconds):
Ask: “What would feel supportive or meaningful right now?”
Not what you “should” do. What you need.
Maybe it’s:
• Drinking water slowly
• Stretching
• Stepping outside
• Taking a mindful breath
• Continuing your task with more awareness
Presence doesn’t require a perfect morning routine or a full life reset. Sometimes it begins with one conscious moment.
✅ Action step: Choose one ordinary activity today (walking, eating, showering, drinking coffee) and do it a little more slowly and intentionally.

Reframe the Ordinary
Lola was talking to a client the other day, and they mentioned a social post I had put out years ago that still helps them today, so I wanted to share the concept with you.
I was standing in line at IKEA, and it was boring, hot and generally not fun. Then I had a thought hit me like a bolt of lightning, BAM!
“I am committed to standing in this line, so it's going to happen regardless; why not make it a more enjoyable experience for myself?”
I took a deep breath and, with fresh eyes, noticed the beauty around me that I was glazing over: the clouds rolling by, the birds chirping, and then I stretched while in line.
Guess what? That line experience was SOOOO much better than it was a couple of minutes ago. Just because I reframed my thinking around the experience I was in.
In most situations, there are 3 paths open to you, and you get to choose which to take:
Leave the situation
Stay in the situation, in your current state
Stay in the situation and take action to make it more enjoyable
If you’re going to stay in the situation, then I think choosing 3 is the best option; it doesn’t mean it's easy to shift your mindset, but it does make life lighter and less stressful.
✅ Action Step: Can you reframe your thinking about something that defaults to mundane or not enjoyable to make it even 1% better for yourself?
